Gavin, TD, Rochelle and Will enter Haleakala National Park, preparing for a 20 mile hike through the desert crater. Maui was formed by the actions of two volcanos. When the dust settled, Haleakala was its highest peak. Its last volcanic activity was in the late 1700s. It is not a true crater. Rather, its floor was created by erosion that made two valleys meet. While a harsh climate, Haleakala teems with life and is home to many endangered species. Haleakala peaks at 12,000 feet.
